Prerequisites: This 5-day course is open to veterinary technicians/nurses that have successfully completed Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation. Veterinary technicians/nurses must submit an Employment Agreement Letter when they register for this course. Before veterinary technicians/nurses can attend Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Nursing, their supervising veterinarian or physical therapist must be certified in canine rehabilitation.

Course Description: Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Nursing provides students with a fundamental understanding of functional canine anatomy, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, hydrotherapy and massage. The basics of neurological rehabilitation are also introduced. Participants get hands-on experience with dogs on site. Outcome measurement, documentation, patient education, and legal and ethical issues related to canine rehabilitation are also covered.

This course is RACE approved by the AAVSB.

Please note: Students who do not attend a full day of class will not receive any CE credit hours for that day and may have to return to make up the missing hours.

Course Fee: $2,650

 Topics Covered Include:

  • Muscles and muscle groups as they apply to function in the canine rehabilitation patient
  • Utilization of therapeutic modalities including LASER, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cold and heat
  • Performing and progressing therapeutic exercise programs for strength, weight-bearing, range of motion, flexibility, proprioception and stabilization
  • Assisting in a basic canine orthopedic neurological evaluation
  • Rehabilitation-specific documentation
  • Client education including basic therapeutic exercises, stretches, massage strokes, and the application of superficial hot and cold modalities
  • Proper use and maintenance of therapeutic modalities and hydrotherapy equipment
  • Legal and ethical issues

Note: Bring your Intro lab book with anatomy notes and color photos with you to the Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Nursing course.

Classes are held each day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm in Colorado and Florida. There is a 1-hour break for lunch. Registered students: Please watch for specific emails about each class as there may be occasional minor changes to class times.

At the end of DAY 5, students are given an open-book, take-home final exam that they have 30 days to complete. Collaboration with fellow classmates is encouraged.
